AUXCD003 - Kiyoko

AUXCD003 - Kiyoko - Sea Of Trees

Kiyoko might not be a name you've heard of, or if you have, you haven't heard much yet.  Well the reason being is we've been keeping this project quiet for a while, but it's time to let you know all about it.  Kiyoko is Synkro and his friend Jack Lever, who records as Bering Strait.  The hawk-eyed among you will recall a few tracks by Kiyoko and Bering Strait appearing in Auxcast Episode 08.  We're deliberately holding back the audio until the last minute with this, as it's a special album project that deserves your attention and intrigue.

Kiyoko is a project that focuses on ambient/downtempo compositions made from old analog gear, circuit-bent toys and old crackling vinyl samples.  It's Joe and Jack's first project under this guise and we think you are going to love it.

Release date: June 18th (Surus) / June 25th (everywhere else)
Format: CD/Digital (free instant digital download when you buy the CD from our Surus store)

Sounds interesting, I love Synkro's music and pretty much everything you've put out so this is probably a no brainer. Definitely will check this one out.

Album arrived. Stunning! Was wonderful in the sitting room, now about to test drive it with a walk through the park.

Keep em coming.

Yawn..stretch.. Good Morning.. You know, my two cherry trees on the backside look very similar to the one pictured here. The lovely blossoms bloomed back in the Spring and now the trees have faded back into the rest of the forest with their summer green leaves. Got the download just now and I'm off to work with it. Can't wait to have it this circulating in my brain while having the picture above in my head. Anxious to see what the disc looks like.

Gush warning. Just want to reassure,.. beyond any shadow of doubt,.. that this album is fantastimagic but TOOO GDAMNED BRIEF. It just friggin leaves me longing for more in a merrily irritating way. Phenomenal pairing of acoustic and electronic elements. Everything is sharp in the ears and every sound has its place on the stage. Leaves a lingering feeling like I get from listening to stuff like Arovane. Each piece just leaves the mind swaying to and fro in a blissful lull with help of extremely relaxed yet prominent grooves. The details like the ethereal vocal phrases in the opener sealed it for me that this was going to be some kind of special but then 'Dulcimer' made an appearance and my day was made (again). SOT made the ideal strack in the car to and from work. BIG applause to Jack n Joe, you two definitely need to do this again. This is a MUST OWN folks. Thks AUX for getting this out for public consumption. I know I made a big deal about this being all too brief of an album but one thing they've done here is make every single piece count for something.

It is a short LP, but tbh, that's one of the things that drew me to it in the first place. For that reason, I've often let it loop 2 or 3 times over which just made me like each track even more and more. Glad you liked it though :)

You know, not to try to step in and insinuate that I could possibly know anything about nothing, because I assure you I just won't do that but... coulld possibly be nice with a Dan Harbanham work on AUX. REALLY enjoyed his latest contribution on dB's label and that Mosaic comp track from last year.

Absolutely lovely music this is, some of the tracks remind me a little bit of Helios which is no bad thing.

Great stuff indeed.

I've got to tell you this story but let me start by saying that I do not buy c.d.'s with the exception of releases by Durutti Column or any Factory Records reissues for that matter. If it isn't on vinyl I will usually let it pass by. I do recognize that I do this at my own peril but I figure with the amount of music that I do buy on vinyl I am content either way so missing a piece of music here or there is just part of the risk I take at choosing a particular format for music. That said, I was strolling through the Surus store as I do every couple of weeks buying vinyl, listening to samples etc... I clicked on the Auxiliary link to see if there was anything new or upcoming and there it was. The Kiyoko c.d.. Now, normally at this point I would just say "oh" and move on but there was something about that thumb nail sized picture that caught my eye so I decided to play a clip. Then I played another clip.....then another until I had listened to them all about 5-6 times. Needless to say the C.D. was ordered (although not through Surus as they were sold out at the time). It is an absolutely stunning album. If a piece of music can be "humble" then this most certainly is. What I mean by that is here are two extremely talented artists, capable of making some extraordinary music and they could probably work with anyone they wish, making loads of cash in the process but instead, in the words of the late Tony Wilson, "they make art, not money". This release is so understated. It sounds brittle really, like each chord could break. Its stunningly beautiful really and I just wanted to say "thank you" for releasing it. It's by far one of the best releases since Talk Talk's "Laughing Stock". I look forward to hearing more.
