Upcoming Auxiliary release dates

September has turned out to be a busy month.  Here's what's in store for you:

AUXSYM004 - Symbol #4 by Consequence - September 5th
AUXWL001 - ASC - Another Late Night / Gestures - September 19th
AUXTR004 - Sam KDC - Marine Light EP - September 26th

A few things to point out.  Symbol #4 will be on clear green vinyl and limited to 250 copies only.  Once they are gone, that's it.  On a similar tip, AUXWL001 (Auxiliary White Label 001, in case you were wondering) is limited to 200 copies only.  This will be exclusive to the official Auxiliary store: http://www.auxiliarymusic.com/shop.  Finally, Sam KDC's digital only release on Auxiliary Transmissions will be available at all the usual digital stores.

If I could encourage you all to start using http://www.auxiliarymusic.com/shop for all your Auxiliary music, that would be a great help.  Selling music is becoming increasingly harder and harder as time goes on, so when you buy direct from the label, then the profit margin increases for all involved, which in turn means I can do more projects which you all get to hear and purchase!  Sounds like a good trade off to me, right?  Oh yeah, also when ordering your vinyl from the store, you get the MP3's of that release for free, which is a great incentive and a nice little bonus while you wait for your vinyl to be delivered.

These might be the last releases for the year, but having said that, I might see how things go and slip in another before years end.  Of course, keep your eyes peeled to the blog for up-to-the-minute info.

Blu Mar Ten - She Moves Through (ASC Remix)

Blu Mar Ten have just had a nice little overhaul of their website. Just a reminder that when you sign up to receive updates from them, you can get a free MP3 of my remix of their classic 'She Moves Through', originally featured on Logical Progression 3. It was a shame that we couldn't put it out, but copyright laws prevented us from doing anything other than giving it away, so enjoy a free piece of music.

bvdub presents Deep Space Mix 21

Yes, you read it right.  bvdub presents, not ASC presents!  This is the first time I've thought about letting anyone else into the Deep Space inner circle, as it were, and who better than one of ambient music's finest?  Brock Van Wey delivers a sumptuous mix of exotic blends, spatial dimensions and just about every other superlative that comes to mind when you think of the Deep Space series.  He's asked that there's no track listing provided for his mix, so you won't be getting one.  Just listen to it and love it.

Technology and the art of DJ'ing

It's 2011.  There are a multitude of options.  Digital, analogue and even hybrids of both, but still there remains this belief that if you are not mixing records the old fashioned way - i.e 2 pieces of vinyl, 2 turntables, a mixer and nothing else - then you are cheating.

I decided to make this post after a friend of mine played a Serato set tonight on a net radio show and got accused of cheating.  He was told he couldn't mix like that using normal vinyl, among other things.  Very sad that there are people that still think this way.

Whatever the media, be it vinyl, timecoded vinyl, CD, USB stick or whatever, you still have to know the basics of mixing music.  You still have to know your music, learn where to drop it in the mix, and most of all, know how to correct the pitch so it matches to the same tempo.  These days, technology does give you a helping hand, like cue points on CDJ's and Serato for example, but even that isn't helping that much, as it's not exactly hard to find the point in a track you want to mix from on vinyl, stop the platter and cue it up from there is it?

Anyway, I think it's about time that these people that obviously don't understand anything other than the tried and tested methods need to do some research and educate themselves.  Ignorance is one thing, but calling DJ's out because you don't know any better is just plain stupid and embarrassing.

No Future Remix

In what seems like an appropriate time as any, Instra:mental gave away MP3's of my remix and Consequence's remix of their tune, No Future.  If you've missed all the Sendspace links floating around on Twitter or Facebook, or you don't even use those sites, then I've uploaded it to my Soundcloud for a bit.  Here's the link:
